Actually, Robert, I think the most impressive, and offensive piece of swearing is probably from the 'Mr. Show', and especially from the sketches featuring the Rev. Winton Dupree on his program 'Swear to God'.

Here's an example (can't wait to see what the Mumbo-generator makes of this):

I'm finding it very amusing that the host's attempts to prevent swearing have led to a lengthy conversation about swearing and now to a quest to find the most offensive thing you can say. Thanks for making me smile. ;D

Aravis suggested that we should come up with alternative 'acceptable words' and I have given some deep thought to possible substitutes which could be used on this forum. I would like to submit my list for consideration.

Sh*t - motion

C*nt - lady's foot (I would like to plead a precedent here; this is a biblical euphemism. When the bible mentions "the hairs of his feet" it is not talking about hobbits.

P*n*s - dangley bits

D*ck - dangley bits (let us not complicate matters by pretending that they are not the same organ)

D*mn - curse

P*ssy - furball

Bl**dy - sanguineous

B*gg*r - entimologist

I'm not proud - alternatives or additions?

There's the whole homosexual, male & female series. Mighty common, and mighty offensive. Damn, some of these might even slip through as combinations of unexceptional words (be strong, young Wyndham: be strong, must not provide examples).

How about resort to army-eeze:

alternate, sexually, male (1 times)

and

alternate, sexually, female (1 times)

If greater precision is required you could have, for example:

alternate, sexually, male, orally expressive, genitally accomodating (1 times)

So much less offensive than 'knob-gobbler'!

I have a new theory to trot out.

The EPA under Bush has been dialing back permissible limits of mercury in fish products. The most common of these is canned Tuna. I believe that the FDA still recommends this as a good source of nutrition for both growing children and expectant mothers.

Among other medical hazards mercury poisoning is linked to mental retardation and reduced attention span. In history nervous disorders due to the use of mercury in the making of felt hats led to the expression; “As mad as a hatter.”<br>
It may be that this administration’s EPA is assuring replacements to fill out future neo-conservative constituencies.

The impact of lead/mercury on Roman society may be a myth or maybe not??? It will be interesting to chart the impact on the Amercan community, already widely thought to be exhibiting signs of such 'poisoning' ;D
