You know Pink, call me paranoid, but I wonder how many of them are cops of one variety or another. Robert and Tenarke are both well established supversives, obviously. Might be as simple as a search engine that looks for certain patterns, certain expressions -- 'George Bush' and 'boob' in the same sentence -- inviting human intervention.

Might be (please, please let it be, because it would be too funny) that a mega-computer is trying to break down the posts here into some sort of pattern to find the secret messages the jihadists posting here are sending.

Heah! Just was contacted by relatives in Australia. I'm descended from various sorts of Briton, from families that exploded in the last century or two -- some going here, some there, some someplace else. This branch was a Welsh family that detonated to England, S. Africa, Australia and Canada about the turn of the Century. Very strange.

Incidentally, anybody seen this. Its hilarious (but kind of neat).

When Welshmen get bored:

Thanks for sharing.

Puts me in mind of the answer to the age old question of why Scots men wear kilts.

“The sownd of zippers maks the sheep nearvous.”

Wyndham, I have relatives in both Canada and America. they are descended from my great great grandmother's brother and there are hundreds of them. Someone sent me the family tree. It is very large.

I have also had contact with a woman in USA who is descended from my great great great great great grandfather's brother. She is the most distant cousin I know of.

I love your idea of mysterious visitors coming to this forum to connect the dots: and talking of connecting dots, LizzieD says that the readers' place is fast running out of steam and mostly it is just her, Jandy and Ponderable who still post. I know that you were all bewailing the loss of contact with Ponderable . Maybe somehow we could direct him over here for a visit.

Hi Pink. His name is Greg Connell. A 3rd cousin! He's a 54 year old Doctor of Chiropractic in Ballarat Victoria. Is that meaningful? I know you should never ask people from small countries if they know somebody, but I was once asked, and I did. Most embarrassing.

Too many jokes about the Welshmen and sheep intersection so to speak. If you haven't heard any, let me know.

Australia is a HUGE country; it has a small population because most of it is desert. Ballarat is about five flying hours away and then a longish road trip (unless there is a nearby airport with flights from Melbourne).

Chop off Alaska and the Australian land mass is about the same size as USA - well, OK, a bit smaller but not much.

Try me with someone in the Perth metro area and I might possibly know of them - tht five points of separation theory.

Had to ask Pink. Happened to me once. Somebody in London UK asked me if I knew their cousin in Calgary. I was about to answer 'of course not' and then heard the name. I did.

Joke from the Archbishop of York. Its pretty good!

Apparently when he was a little boy growing up in Uganda he was told:

"There are four kinds of people in the UK -
First, there were the Scots who kept the Sabbath - and everything else they could lay their hands on;
Then there were the Welsh - who prayed on their knees and their neighbours;
Thirdly there were the Irish who never knew what they wanted - but were willing to fight for it anyway.
Lastly there were the English who considered themselves self-made men, - thus relieving the Almighty of a terrible responsibility."

Ooooops!!

Searching through old newspapers for family members I came across this birth notice in The Brisbane Mail, dated 31st October 1870.

Births, Marriages, and Deaths.
BIRTHS.
BALDWIN.-On the 11th October, at the Parliamentary
Refreshment-rooms, the wife of Mr. C. Baldwin, of a
son.

Caught short with a vengeance ... :o

I'm just a boring generic Christian then. Pretty funny otherwise.

Reminds of a lecture back in undergrad days about Russian History. Conversion of the Rus under St. Vladimir. Apparently he had decided to convert, but wasn't sure about Muslims, Christians and Jews. Received delegations of each. Jews explained about circumcision and no pork. An uncircumcised man, who liked his kolbassa, Vladimir wasn't impressed. Next up were the Muslims. They explained that not only did they circumcise and not eat pork, but they also didn't drink. Apparently a shocked Vladimir responded something like 'but drunk is the joy of the Rus'! Some things never change. The Christians explained that they didn't circumcise and loved wurst and booze of all kinds.

There was never really a question where he was going to go.
